Werner von Braun is the person who developed the
V2 rocket, a German retaliatory weapon during
World War II.
Von Braun entered the Technical University of
Berlin in 1930 and later joined the German Space
Travel Association.
Here he helped test Hermann Oberth’s liquid-propellant
rocket engine.
In May 1945, when Germany was certain to be defeated
by the Allies, he fled to America.
The first thing he developed in America was the
Redstone Rocket.
Von Braun is the first director of NASA’s Marshall
Space Flight Center.
After that, he was in charge of rocket development
in the Apollo program to send humans to the moon.
