Machu Picchu, a 15th-century Inca ruin,
sits on a ridge at an altitude of 2,430
meters in the foothills of the Andes.
The capital of the Inca Empire was located
in Cusco.
The Inca Empire fell to the Spaniards
in 1533.
At the top of the mountain there are ruins
that are believed to have been the residences
of priests, and on the mountainside there is
the Sun Temple of Machu Picchu.
In July 1911, American explorers discovered
the ruins of Machu Picchu by chance while
exploring the area’s old Inca roads.
マチュ・ピチュは、１５世紀のインカ帝国の
遺跡であり、アンデス山麓の標高2,430mの
尾根にあります。
インカ帝国の首都はクスコの所在していました。
インカ帝国は1533年にスペイン人による征服に
より滅亡しました。
山頂には、神官の住居跡とみられる遺跡があり、
山腹にはマチュ・ピチュの太陽の神殿が存在して
います。
1911年7月に、アメリカの探検家がこの地域の
古いインカ時代の道路を探検していた時に、
偶然にも、マチュ・ピチュの遺跡を発見しました。
