■洪水でゾウが溺れ死ぬ

On May 26, 2024, seven young elephants drowned
in Sri Lanka due to the southwest monsoon.
This is the first time since 2019 that seven
elephants have died at once.
An autopsy will be carried out to determine the
cause of death, but it is currently believed that
he became stuck in marshland and drowned.
It is said that there are around 7,000 elephants
living in Sri Lanka.
２０２４年５月２６日に、南西モンスーンの影響で、
スリランカで若いゾウ７頭が溺れ死ぬ事故が
起きました。
一度に７頭ものゾウが死ぬのは2019年以来で初めて
のことです。
この事故の死因を特定するために解剖が行われる予定
であるが、現時点では湿地にはまり溺れたとの見方が
強くなっています。
スリランカに生息するゾウの数は７０００頭余りで
あると言われています。
