Mars is the fourth planet in the solar system and
orbits just outside the Earth.
Mars appears red in telescopes because of the rusty
iron oxide on its surface.
Mars has little oxygen, which oxidizes the surface
to form iron oxide.
Mars is about half the diameter of Earth and has
less than 1/10 the mass of Earth.
Mars, like Earth, has seasons.
This is because it orbits with its axis of rotation
tilted relative to the sun.
The atmosphere of Mars is very thin, with a composition
of 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen and 1.5% argon.
In addition, oxygen and water vapor are also included
in small amounts.
If there is water flowing beneath the surface of Mars,
then, of course, there should be life.
However, even if there is life, it is expected to be
something like bacteria that exists on the earth.
火星は、太陽系の第４惑星であり、地球のすぐ外側を
まわっています。
火星が望遠鏡で赤く見えるのは、火星の表面の赤サビた
酸化鉄によるものです。
火星には、わずかの酸素があり、その酸素が地表を酸化
して、酸化鉄を形成しています。
火星の大きさは、地球の半分ほどの直径であり、質量は
地球の 1/10 以下です。
地球と同じように火星にも季節があります。
これは、太陽に対して自転軸が傾むいた状態で公転して
いるからです。
火星の大気はひじょうに薄く、その組成は、二酸化炭素が
９５%、窒素が３%、アルゴンが１.５%です。
さらに、酸素や水蒸気なども微量に含まれています。
火星の地下に水が流れているとしたら、当然ながら、生命
が存在していても不思議ではありません。
ただし、もしも生命がいたとしても、地球に存在するような
バクテリアのようなものであることが予想されます。
