Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Corsica in 1769.
\nDuring the French Revolution, he became emperor
\nand ruled France.
\nNapoleon was granted a military dictatorship.
\nHe took control of most of the European continent,
\nwith the exception of Russia, Great Britain, and
\nthe Ottoman Empire.
\nHowever, the failure of the Russian campaign in 1812
\nput an end to the expansionary ambitions of European
\ncontrol.
\nAfter escaping from Elba, Napoleon returned to Paris
\nand was reinstated as emperor.
\nAfter being defeated by the British at the Battle of
\nWaterloo in June 1815, he was exiled to the island of
\nSt Helena.
\nAnd there he ended his life.<\/p>\n
