Chicago is located in the state of Illinois in
the United States and is the third most populous
city after New York and Los Angeles.
From the late 19th century to the middle of the
20th century, it developed as a base for rail,
air, and water transportation in the United
States.
Chicago is also the center of the Great Lakes
Industrial Zone and is considered the birthplace
of the American-style city with towering
skyscrapers.
In contrast to Chicago’s bloated economic
development, new social problems have emerged.
That is the widening gap between rich and poor,
and in the 20th century, slums progressed in
the West Side.
シカゴは、アメリカのイリノイ州にあり、人口は、
ニューヨークとロサンゼルスに次いで３番目です。
19世紀後半から20世紀中ごろでアメリカ国内に
おける鉄道、航空、水運の拠点として発展して
きました。
また、シカゴは五大湖工業地帯の中心となって
いて、摩天楼がそびえ立つアメリカ型都市の発祥
とされています。
シカゴの肥大する経済発展とは裏腹に、新たな社会
問題も生まれてきました。
それが貧富の差の拡大であり、２０世紀に入ると
ウェストサイドでスラム化が進行しました。
