■つるの恩返し

A long time ago, in a certain place,
there lived a poor old man and an old woman.
One cold snowy day, when the old man was out,
he saw a crane buried in the snow.
The old man took pity on the crane, pulled it
out of the snow, and let it go.
The old man returned home, and after a while
he heard a knock on the door of the house.
When he opened the door, there stood a beautiful
girl.
The girl was asked to stay at her grandfather
and grandmother’s house.
In repayment, Tsuru, who had changed into a
daughter, started weaving a kimono.
The two were very happy to see the finished
kimono.
However, the next day, the grandfather saw the
daughter weaving a kimono in the shape of a crane.
Knowing that he was not human, Tsuru could no
longer stay at home.
昔、昔あるところに、貧乏なおじいさんとおばあさんが
住んでいました。
ある寒い雪の日に、おじいさんが外に出かけていると
雪の中に一羽の鶴が埋もれているのを見かけました。。
おじいさんは、その鶴をかわいそうに思い、雪の中から
出して、逃がしてやりました。
おじいさんは家に戻り、しばらくすると、家の戸を
叩く音が聞こえました。
戸を開けてみると、そこには、美しい娘が立っていました。
その娘はおじいさんとおばあさんの家に泊めてもらうことに
なりました。
その恩返しとして、娘に姿を変えていた鶴は、着物を織る
ことになりました。
２人は、できあがった着物を見て、大変喜んでいました。
しかし、次の日に娘が、鶴になった状態で着物を織っている
ところをおじいさんに見られてしまいました。
自分が人間でないことを知られた鶴は、もはや家には
いられなくなりました。
