On June 17, 2024, the temperature in Mecca,
the holy city of Islam in Saudi Arabia,
reached over 51 degrees Celsius.
More than 1,300 pilgrims died of heatstroke
in the heatwaves.
On this day, approximately 1.8 million people
took part in the pilgrimage.
80% of the pilgrims who died were
on unauthorized pilgrimages.
Many pilgrims survived the heat by cooling off
in water.

観測しました。
この猛暑で巡礼者の１３００人以上が熱中症で
死亡しました。
この日、当地には約１８０万人が巡礼で参加して
いました。
死亡した巡礼者の８割が無許可巡礼をしていました。
巡礼者の中には、水で冷やしてこの暑さに乗り越えた
人たちも多くいました。
