Capybaras live in grasslands and marshes near
rivers in Panama and northeastern Argentina
in South America.
Capybaras can stay underwater for up to 5 minutes
and make cute vocalizations.
Wild capybaras are preyed upon by jaguars, foxes
and condors on the ground.
Alligators target capybaras when they swim underwater.
Capybaras live in hot areas, but are sensitive to heat.
That’s why they wake up early in the morning
while it’s still cool and eat some fruit.
Capybaras in captivity can live up to 10 years or more.
カピバラは、体長が１メートル以上もあるネズミ
の仲間です。
カピバラは、南アメリカのパナマやアルゼンチン
北東部の川の近くの草原地帯や湿地帯に生息して
います。
カピバラは、水中には５分間も潜っていることが
できて、可愛いらしい鳴き方をするのが特徴です。
野生のカピバラは、地上においては、ジャガー、
キツネ、コンドルに襲われます。
水中で泳いでいるときには、ワニに狙われます。
カピバラは、暑い地域に住んでいるが、暑さには
弱い方です。
だから、朝早くまだ涼しいうちに起きて、果物など
を食べています。
人に飼われているカピバラは、寿命が１０年以上に
なります。
