Once upon a time, an old man and an old woman lived
in a certain place.
The grandfather went to the mountains to mow, and the
grandmother went to the river to do the laundry.
As the grandmother was doing the laundry in the river,
a big peach came out.
The grandmother took the peach home.
Then, when the grandmother tried to cut the peach,
a big baby came out of the peach.
The grandfather and grandmother were surprised,
but very pleased.
The child was born of a peach, so it was named Momotaro.
After Momotaro grew up, he went to squeeze the demons
who live on Onigashima.
At this time, Momotaro was accompanied by a dog,
a monkey and a pheasant.
むかし、むかし、あるところにおじいさんと
おばあさんが住んでいました。
おじいさんは山へしば刈りに行き、おばあさんは川へ洗濯
に行きました。
おばあさんが川で洗濯をしていると、大きな桃が流れて
きました。
おばあさんは、その桃を家に持って帰りました。
そこで、おばさんが、その桃を切ろうとすると、なんと
桃から大きな赤ん坊が出てきました。
おじいさんとおばあさんは驚いたけれども、とても喜び
ました。
その子供は桃から生まれたから、桃太郎という名前がつけ
られました。
桃太郎は大きくなってから、鬼ケ島に住んでいる鬼をこら
しめに行きました。
桃太郎はこのときに、犬、猿とキジを一緒にお供にして
いました。
